How have you performed in the past?
Probably the best way to follow our performance is to monitor our model portfolios. We run two, one for income investors and the other built on growth stocks. Members can also follow a staff portfolio that lists all staff holdings so that you can see how our analysts back their recommendations with their own money.

What part of the site should I visit first?
If you’re new to The Intelligent Investor we’d suggest you first visit the New Members’ Area. It features a short video introduction from our managing director and a list of special reports that will help you get the most from your membership, including an Introduction to Value Investing, our Recommended Reading List, Subscription Companion, Analysts’ Profiles and Financial Services Guide.
|
| |
What’s a good place to start my research?
There are probably a couple of ways to start. Firstly, why not look at our current recommendations? This will take you to a list of current active recommendations, from where you can view a full list of buys, holds and sells.
When you find a particular stock that interests you, click on the company name. This will take you to the company details page (here’s an example) from where you can access all the research on a particular stock, view its dividend history and reporting dates, see its current directors and view a list of all questions submitted by members that relate to the company.
If you’re a less experienced investor, we’d suggest you start out by getting a basic understanding of our approach by reading the special report Introduction to Value Investing. You may then like to head to the Investor’s College area, devoted to expanding your investing and analytical skills.

What’s your publishing schedule?
New research and responses to member queries (known as Ask the Experts) are posted to the website daily. Each Monday and Thursday, you’ll also receive an email update that lists new stories posted to the site over the previous few days. Many members use this as a way of staying on top of latest research, along with our RSS feed and Twitter updates.
Then, every other Tuesday evening, we produce a pdf of all the research published to the site in the previous fortnight. For members that receive the hard copy, this is mailed on a Thursday and is usually received in metropolitan areas the following day. Country members usually get their copy on the following Monday or Tuesday.
Stocktake, our fortnightly podcast (check it out here) usually makes it to the site every other Thursday, along with occasional management interviews. Finally, our energetic blog Bristlemouth, which is open to everyone, features provocative posts a few times a week, plus lively member comments.

Member Services |

Can I change my password?
In the My Profile section, click on Change my details and make the appropriate changes to the form. Your details will be automatically updated.
|
| |
I can’t log in, what should I do?
Are your login details correct? If you can’t log into the site, first check your login details (if you can’t remember your Member ID, log in using your email address). And if you’ve forgotten your password, request a reminder.
Have you checked the terms and conditions check box? Beneath the box where you enter your password on the home page, make sure the ‘I agree to Terms & Conditions’ box is checked. If your login is still unsuccessful, enter your email address or Member ID on the page you’re taken to and click on the ‘I agree’ button.
Have you recently upgraded your firewall protection? If so, you may need to add www.intelligentinvestor.com.au to your safe site list.
If you still have problems, please contact us.

| |
The site doesn’t seem to remember me, why?
As long as you check the ‘Remember me at this computer’ option in the login area of the home page, you will be permanently logged in. The only case where this will not happen is when you logout of the site before leaving. If you do this, you’ll need to log in again on your next visit.
Most members, having logged in on their first visit, simply leave the site instead of actually logging out. This does not affect your security other than in allowing other people using your computer to access your Intelligent Investor membership.

I can’t download the PDF
On the logged-in home page you’ll see two columns in the centre of the page. The first lists the latest research and the second has a series of orange icons. Scan down this list and look for the ‘Latest PDF’ heading. Then click on the ‘Download issue XX’ link. A new window should open and the issue should display in a few seconds, or a little longer on a dial-up connection.
If this doesn't work, try right-clicking on the link and selecting ‘Save target as’ or ‘Download link to disk’ from the menu (the exact wording depends on your operating system). You will then be prompted to select a place to save the file, choose the location and click Save. A dialogue box will appear showing the download in progress. Once complete, click Open and the file will display automatically.

| |
How do I use RSS and Twitter?
RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication and is an easy way to view a list of the latest research. If your browser is compatible and you have bookmarked the RSS page (http://www.intelligentinvestor.com.au/xml/recentResearch.cfm) or you use an RSS reader, each time new research is loaded to the site it will notify you.
Twitter goes one step further. Not only will it keep you updated with all the latest research, you can also follow our analytical team. They ‘tweet’ regularly, posting links to articles and research they’ve been reading. Follow the team here.

How do I listen to a podcast?
Podcasting (free samples here) enables you to listen to audio files at the time and place of your choosing. There are two ways to do it.
Firstly, you can simply listen to the audio file straight from the website by pressing the white play button. (On the logged-in home page in the far right hand column, you’ll see an area called Latest Podcast. The play button is in the blue bar at the bottom of this section).
Alternatively, you can use software like iTunes:
To subscribe through iTunes (you will need version 7+) use this link. This will launch iTunes and auto subscribe to The Intelligent Investor’s Stocktake program.
To subscribe using another media player use this link. These files are in MP3 format. Use this link if you are unsure what file formats your media player can handle.
If neither of these methods work, head to the podcast page and;
- Click on the box containing the podcast's link
- Copy the link (PC users: right click and select "Copy Shortcut," Mac users: click and hold the mouse button and then select "Copy")
- Paste the link into the subscription field of your podcasting software
And if that doesn’t work, give us a call on 1800 620 414 and we’ll talk you through it.
|
| |
How do I change my contact details?
After you’ve logged in, click on My Profile from the left hand menu and choose Change your details. Enter the updated information and your details will be automatically updated.
|
| |
I’m not getting your emails
First check that your email inbox isn’t full. If it’s not, your email client may have accidentally junked our emails so it might be worth looking in your Junk or Trash folder to see if any Intelligent Investor emails are there. If so, you’ll need to tell your email program that these messages are not junk.
Lastly, if you’ve recently changed your email address and haven’t told us, please update your details here. And if that doesn’t fix the problem please contact us and we’ll sort it out for you.
|
| |
I’m missing the latest issue
Call 1800 620 414 or email us and we’ll post it out to you immediately.
|
| |
Can I suspend my membership?
Yes, you can suspend your membership. Again, after you’ve logged in, click on My Profile from the left hand menu and choose Suspend subscription. Simply enter the dates from which you wish to start your suspension to when you’d like your membership to resume.
|
| |
How do I ask the analytical team a question?
After you’ve logged in, click on the Ask the Experts menu option in the left hand bar. If you haven’t accessed this area before you might then be asked to agree to the terms and conditions of the forum. Then click on the Q&A menu option.
